Netflix Is Testing Ads & Binge-Watchers Are NOT Happy Netflix

A lot of us LOVE watching Netflix because we get to binge-watch our fave shows without the pesky interruption of an ad.

Well, now that might be changing, because the streaming service is testing a new preview feature that people are not happy with.

Basically, they’re testing a new feature which plays an ad in between episodes of whatever series you are watching.

It’s not happening for everyone - only some users are getting the trial, with ads popping up at the end of episodes before the next plays.

The ‘ads’ are previews for other shows and films on the service, not commercials for random products.

The new feature aims to provide viewers with better options, bringing up different show previews they may like to keep in mind, before going on to the next episode of whatever you’re loving.

Tbh, it sounds like a pretty handy tool, considering we can scroll through dozens of movies and shows before deciding what we want to watch.

Other users aren’t sharing the same view, taking to Twitter to share their outrage.

A rep from Netflix has since released a statement about the testing, revealing:

“At Netflix, we conduct hundreds of tests every year so we can better understand what helps members more easily find something great to watch. A couple of years ago, we introduced video previews to the TV experience, because we saw that it significantly cut the time members spend browsing and helped them find something they would enjoy watching even faster. Since then, we have been experimenting even more with video based on personalized recommendations for shows and movies on the service or coming shortly, and continue to learn from our members.

“In this particular case, we are testing whether surfacing recommendations between episodes helps members discover stories they will enjoy faster.

"It is important to note that a member is able to skip a video preview at anytime if they are not interested.

“We do not share the specific details around a test, as that compromises the efficacy of the test. That said, our tests are generally global.”

I’m someone who loves watching trailers before a movie at the cinema, so this is actually a good thing for me.

Are you someone who loves or hates this new feature?
