Tonight MasterChef was very... odd.
Guest chef Ben Shewry presented the contestants with their Mystery Box challenge for the night.
The judges decided to emphasise the fact that the theme of the Mystery Box was Australiana, as every ingredient originated from our own land.
A tad awkward considering the guest judge is actually from New Zealand.
The ingredients in the Mystery Box included kangaroo meat, scallops, waxed flowers, sea lettuce, wattle seeds, lemon aspen juice, fresh cheese and quandongs.
The contestants started to freak out because a lot of them has NO idea what most of the ingredients were, but viewers were even more confused.
When the quandongs were mentioned, fans thought they heard something else entirely so of course, the jokes started to flood in...
After a bit of googling, we found out that a quandong is actually a type of bush peach.
Everyone anxiously watched the contestants blindly create their dishes as barely any of them knew what their ingredients were.
Ray decided to make an ice cream sandwich for his dish, thinking that keeping things simple would be a good way to go.
Luckily for him, he NAILED it!
Ray was able to choose the core cooking method for the Invention Challenge and decided that he and his fellow contestants would be smoking their next dish.
Whilst some contestants chose to smoke fish, scallops and meat, Eloise decided to take a page out of Ray's book and create some smoked vanilla and whisky ice cream.
The invention challenge was pretty intense.
Another fire broke out on a bench and poor Pia realised, with only eight minutes to go, that her scallops weren't cooking because her stove wasn't turned on.
When it was time to taste the dishes, Jess created a dish she called 'My Garden' that has lemon myrtle and smoked white chocolate inside it.
It looked yum and according to the judges, it was "the most inventive thing we've seen all day".
When Eloise presented her smoked vanilla and whisky ice cream though, she blew the judges away!
Looks like ice cream is the winning dish of the day!
