Love Island Australia is slowly hooking more viewers into the addictive love triangles happening amongst the “sexy singles” over in Spain, but many fans have been left a little confused as to where the heck Sophie Monk is?
When Sophie was first announced as the host of Love Island, existing fans of the UK series knew that the host of the show doesn’t actually appear in many episodes at all.
Caroline Flack only enters the Love Island villa when she's dropping a bombshell like an elimination or a twist in the show's format…. And even then, islanders are still often voted out via phone text!
But Channel Nine has marketed the crap out of Sophie Monk appearing on the show, so newbies have been pretty shocked to see that she’s only really appeared in that first episode, with the show’s narrator, Irishman Eoghan McDermott, playing a much larger role.
A spokesperson for Channel Nine told News.com:
“As is the case with the UK version, the format of this multi-platform series revolves around our islanders.
“As host, Sophie’s appearance in the villa means the islanders know something big is about to happen so comes in whenever a major shake-up is made.”
However, one part of the UK series some Aussie viewers may never have seen before, is this Love Island 'Aftersun' special in the UK which saw Flack debrief the episodes with evicted islanders, as well as various celebrities.
So, perhaps Sophie might host a show like this once people started getting voted off?
Only time will tell!
