Australian Idol will always have a special place in our hearts.
The show introduced us to Guy Sebastian, Jessica Mauboy, Casey Donovan, Anthony Callea and, of course, Shannon Noll.
But in 2009, the show that was making stars out of suburban Aussies left our televisions and according to judge Mark Holden, it was all because of two funny women.
Kath & Kim.
Whilst speaking with news.com.au about his new memoir, My Idol Years, the singer and barrister said the Fountain Gate natives ended Idol's TV reign.
“The year before was our fourth season, it was really massive and we were the money spinner for Ten.
"But then in 2007, Kath & Kim and Channel 7 went over us like a tsunami.
“Kath & Kim destroyed Idol, we never recovered from it.
"We thought once the series ended we would be all right but then the repeats wiped us out."
Well, we definitely didn't see this coming!
Kath & Kim is an iconic Australian show, but do you think it could have caused Australian Idol to end?
