Okay listen, before you all jump on your white horse, yes pun intended (you will see) this is what really is going down in Taylor Swift’s music video for Ready For It.
As we all know, Taylor’s new album, which is out on November 10, is called reputation… which obviously ties in with this music video.
When you first hear the song, you would automatically picture Taylor on the beach in the Bahamas sipping on a Pina Colada with her man by her side thinking about the things that they do in her dreams… but no, no, no, it is much deeper than that.
The video starts with Taylor wearing dark clothing and decked out with snake accessories and graffiti and a lot of darkness surrounding her…
This Taylor is the Taylor that the media (NOT ALL MEDIA) has labelled her as, this is the reputation the world now sees her as.
There are Chinese symbols all across the warehouse, which mean the year of the snake… LOL! HOME GIRL FOOLING Y’ALL!
As we go into the video, you will notice another Taylor in a full body suit… she is completely clean and trapped behind a glass wall… this Taylor is the real Taylor, the one that most people choose to ignore.
There is one important part for me, which shows the camera panning around the two Taylors looking at each other as you see through the glass it turns the ‘real’ Taylor into a monster, just like the public sees through the lenses of what they have created.
You then see the same shot again, it shows the transformation of the real Taylor and she is stronger than ever.
They basically then battle it out and destroy the cage that she was trapped in.
SHE IS FREE!!!
The real Taylor literally kills off the one part of herself that everyone else created and because she is now strong enough to be herself.
They then chase after her to try and once again regain control of her.
But real Taylor is up there on her mountain that she climbed of freedom living her best life!
She smiles because they ended her old reputation and she can finally be herself again.
But tear the right at the end proves that it wasn’t easy, but it also shows just how happy she is now.
Taylor felt trapped in the glass box and everyone was watching her, and now she is free.
This song will be the first song on reputation and this is setting up the start of the story for how it will be told. Taylor re-found herself, she freed herself from the cage they trapped her in and now it’s her turn to finish the story, she is telling her own reputation.
OTHER FUN THINGS
The 89 and the 91 written on the wall are the years that Taylor and her boyfriend Joe were born.
Written on the wall in graffiti are:
- All Eyes on Us
- UR Gorgeous
- This Is Enough
- I Love You in Secret
There is also 约瑟夫” written, which stands for Joseph Kahn, who directed the video clip.
