If there are two things we love in this world, excluding our Bae and puppies, two definites would be wine and chocolate…
If you’re the same, then we have some great news for you - chocolate (specifically DARK) and wine could be the secret to beating wrinkles!
Scientists from the University of Exeter have released new findings, suggesting that the combination of the two (in moderation) leads to old cells more so resembling young ones, in turn creating the impression of being younger!
They found that foods which contained telomeres - which are strands of DNA that hold cells together - are great for keeping the cells of your face together, thus combatting wrinkles!
Over time, cells lose these telomeres, but through having foods rich in them (like wine and white chalet.. and plenty of others!) we can help slow the process!
The same compounds in red wine and dark chocolate - and grapes and blueberries, which work even better - are also strong in flavonoids, which are great antioxidants and anti-inflammatories.
This study was published in the British Medical Journal’s Cell Biology publication, undertaken by researchers from the University of Exeter. Colleagues from the University of Brighton also assisted in the study.
The lead researcher, Professor Harries, revealed, "This is a first step in trying to make people live normal lifespans, but with health for their entire life.
"Our data suggests that using chemicals to switch back on the major class of genes that are switched off as we age might provide a means to restore function to old cells.”
Dr Eva Latorre also said, "When I saw some of the cells in the culture dish rejuvenating I couldn't believe it."
"These old cells were looking like young cells. It was like magic. I repeated the experiments several times and in each case, the cells rejuvenated. I am very excited by the implications and potential for this research.”
Who’s about to treat themselves to a dose of chocolate and wine?!
