Ned & Josh, with the help of many volunteers around Canberra are rolling up their sleeves to renovate “The Cottage”, run by The Child and Adolescent Mental Health Service (CAMHS). They provide mental health services for children and young people experiencing moderate to severe mental health issues. CAMHS provide assessment, consultation, therapeutic interventions and early intervention services within a recovery framework. CAMHS provides works with young people up until 18years and has a number of specialist programs, including The Cottage Adolescent Day Program (‘The Cottage’).
The Cottage is a therapeutic group program for young people between the ages of 12 and 18 who reside in the ACT and whose mental health issues are impacting on their capacity to attend and engage in education. The Cottage has a recovery focus and the program aims to reduce the severity of mental health symptoms to achieve functional gains in schooling, social functioning and fostering life skills. The Cottage offers education and therapeutic group programs as well as individual based therapeutic interventions. The duration of this program is generally one to two terms depending on the identified level of need. During this time, young people are supported to return to education or vocational programs so they can continue with their studies or work towards employment opportunities. Following completion of the program, young people are supported to continue accessing therapeutic services through CAMHS or other specialised youth mental health services as needed.
The Cottage is run down, and is in desperate need of renovation, and with the help of volunteers and local business, we are asking people to donate to The Cottage donation site to help with the renovation.
