Afternoon swims at Riverway, are still a while away and now we've found out just how much longer the kids have to wait.
Rectification works are continuing on the Riverway Lagoons and Arts Centre following the unprecedented monsoon and the finish date has been pushed back.
The pools, pumps, change rooms, walls and roofs were all damaged in the severe weather and are currently being repaired by Hutchinson Builders.
Townsville Local Recovery and Resilience Group Chair Cr Les Walker said the works are ongoing with the pools expected to reopen in mid-August and the building in September.
“The work schedule has been adjusted slightly as the scope of works identifies more repairs required on both the pools and the building,” Cr Walker said.
“We know Riverway is a very popular location for families and we want to thank all residents for their patience while the repairs are being carried out.
“In the meantime, I hope the community will visit some of the other pools, galleries or performance spaces across the city that are still open.”
Performances scheduled to be held at Riverway Arts Centre have been moved or postponed where possible and the Ticket Shop will be in contact with all ticket holders.
