Calls to Address Drug & Alcohol Abuse
Across Regional & Rural Australia
Our political leaders are being told to no longer bury their heads in the sand over drug and alcohol abuse. The Australian Professional Society on Alcohol and Other Drugs is putting out the message to our pollies. President of the APSAD, Professor Michael Farrell, says over half a million Aussies are missing out on the healthcare they need.
Given that last year alcohol accounted for 34% of all treatment episodes, and amphetamines accounted for 25%, Mr Farrell says that the problem is bad across the country, but even worse throughout regional and rural Australia, and more investment is needed.
