If you find that you've been trying to hit your fitness goal for months or even years, but tend to keep reverting back to old habits, we're here to tell you, you're not alone.

Often it's not easy finding the motivation to jump out of bed for that 6am pilates class or finding energy to run after work... but there could be a way to get your mojo back!

We teamed up with our friends at Genesis Fitness to prove why training in a group is better than training solo.

Accountability

A study conducted by Virgin Active found that 31% of women consider their friends to be their main motivators for staying in shape.

Having it in the back of your mind that people are expecting you, will make you less likely to switch off that dreaded 5am alarm clock. Your workout buds will notice if you’re not there, which will naturally make you not want to let anyone down. It's very likely you'll opt for the sweat session over the sofa session.

Encouragement

The same study found that 64% of women push themselves harder and work out longer in a group workout than if they exercised on their own.

There is no denying that you're far more likely to do that last burpee or hold that plank for longer if you know people are suffering with you. You'll be pleasantly surprised to see that you can in fact last longer, run faster and lift stronger when there's a cheer squad behind you.

Education

Let's face it: The closer you are to the front of the class generally means you got the moves down pat.

When you exercise alone, you can often be doing the moves incorrectly, which is a complete waste of your time.

Following the person in front of you, or the PT, is the best way to learn new skills, build a proper form and to ensure you're repertoire is safe and injury-free.

Way More Fun

Do you pump weights, run on a treadmill, attend a spin class, and then repeat. Story of your exercise life? This will 9 times out of 10 leave you stuck in a fitness rut. Doing exercise in a group class can lead to a whole new love affair with exercise.

Naturally, human beings like being surrounded by others. We love to laugh, joke and have fun, and nothing says laughter quite like physical suffering. It brings people closer and Hey! You might just meet some life long friends through this mutual ritual.

Empowerment

If you've been slogging your guts out trying to get in shape and find yourself getting no where, it can seriously bring down your motivation in continuing on your fitness journey.

Joining a fitness team, means there's others out there that are needing an extra boost towards their goals. There’s power in unity!

When you’re working together, you discover new ways of looking at exercise.
