A young driver has been killed in a three-vehicle crash near Canungra.

The 18-year-old woman was driving along Beaudesert-Nerang Rd just before 4 on Monday afternoon, when her hatchback collided head-on with a ute coming the other way.

Her car was then struck by another vehicle as it spun out of control.

The teenager was pronounced dead at the scene, while three occupants of the other vehicles escaped with minor injuries.

The Forensic Crash Unit is investigating.

Meanwhile, a 62-year-old man was killed in a tragic tree-chopping accident at a Tallebudgera property several hours earlier.

He was struck by a falling tree while cutting it down with a chainsaw around 10am.

Paramedics tried to save him but he passed away at the scene.

A report is now being prepared for the coroner.
