Optus customers have been advised they could be at risk of identity theft after a hacker gained access to personal information.

9.8 million customers were impacted with data like names, addresses, phone numbers and even passport and drivers licence numbers stolen.

Hit NSW Breakfast’s Maz & Matty spoke to security expert Jeremy Kirk about the breach, not expecting he would drop this bombshell when asked 'how does this happen'?

“That’s a really good question, so I asked the hacker, how did you do it?” Jeremy said “and this person told me”.
