A man's accused of deliberately lighting a bushfire near Fassifern railway station.

Emergency services were called there just after 5:30pm on Thursday January 3 where they found a suspicious fire.

Detectives arrested a 25 year old near Victoria Street railway station in East Maitland 9:30am yesterday and charged him with intentionally cause fire and be reckless as to its spread, receive/dispose stolen property and goods suspected stolen.

Police will allege in court that he deliberately lit the fire, with 22 points of ignition identified across four areas of the fire ground.

It's also claimed he was in possession of and disposed of stolen bankcards in a bin at Fassifern railway station.

He's been refused bail and is due to appear at Maitland Local Court today.
