Warwick Davis' Heartbreaking Story Of The Death Of His First Two Children

Harry Potter actor Warwick Davis has opened up about the heartbreak he and his wife experienced, when they learned two of their first children had passed away as babies. 

Warwick, 48, and his wife Samantha’s first children, Lloyd and George, had inherited two forms of dwarfism from their parents. 

Warwick was born with a very rare condition called spondyloepiphyseal dysplasia congenita, and Sam was born with achondroplasia. When their children inherited both conditions, it was something that would always prove fatal.

Despite the heartbreak, they went on to have two more children, a daughter, Annabelle, 21, and a son, Harrison, 15, who have inherited their father’s condition. 

Sadly, this proved to be fatal to both of the babies. 

While appearing on Bear’s Mission with Bear Grylls, he opened up about the tragedies. 

"Prior to Annabelle and Harrison we had a baby boy, Lloyd, who inherited both our conditions… and that is something that proves fatal. 

"It’s something that a baby won’t survive. But Lloyd he lived for survived for nine days, but yeah he was beautiful… but it was a tough time. And yeah, we had a stillborn too.”

While it was an incredibly painful time for the couple, he revealed that it was that kind of stuff which made them stronger.

Sam also opened up to Daily Mail in 2014, saying, "We found out later that he was the first in the world to survive at all. The doctors actually learned a lot from Lloyd, hopefully that will help other people. But it hit us like a train.

They soon realised there was no hope for Lloyd. 

"When they wanted to turn the machine off I said, “No, no, no”, but they said, “Look, we'll just give him to you and he will just go to sleep in your arms.” And he did. I'm so glad he didn't die on the machine now. We gave him everything we could.

"At Lloyd's funeral I was proud. I was his mum and how lucky was I? I had the best nine days ever. You have to turn it round like that.

"People who lose a baby never do. But, and it may sound like an odd thing to say, we are better people for it. I think you develop a certain empathy when you've been through what we have. It could easily have broken us, but it didn't. If anything we became stronger as a couple.”

When they tried for another child, years later, tragedy struck as George was stillborn at 19 weeks. 

The couple have gone through so much heartbreak and numerous miscarriages, and find themselves very lucky with the beautiful family they now have.
