At least one of the "more than a dozen" reports of strawberry tampering in Western Australia has proved to be false, police have confirmed.

The primary school-aged child who claimed to have found a needle in a strawberry will not be charged given her age.

Police Commissioner Chris Dawson said there was a "degree of copycats" and police had ongoing concerns, saying it was "not a game".

"We can't find a link at present between point-of-sale, packaging or producer and the reports that we have got," Mr Dawson told 6PR radio on Thursday.
