Vandals Trash Bar Beach Skate Park

The bowl at Bar Beach skate park will be fenced off from today after vandals damaged it over the weekend.

Someone lit a wiz bin on fire in the middle on Saturday night - and it's going to take council a week to sort out repairs.

John Bogearts from the Bar Beach Skateboarding Club says it couldn't come at a worse time - with the Australian Bowl Riding Championships scheduled at the skate park in less than two weeks time.

"It's probably one of the most utilised facilities in Newcastle. Probably one of our most valuable assets for the kids."

"With the Australian Bowl Riding Championships less than two weeks away - the timing couldn't be worse."
