Just in time for R U OK Day, former MAFS contestant Jake Edwards joined the Unpopular Opinion podcast to talk about the negative impact reality television can have on mental health and whether reality TV shows should be banned as a result.

Jake walks us through some of his most intense MAFS experiences, including the moment he found out Bec kissed another bloke.

While this was a massive blow for Jake, who felt he’d wasted three months of his life on a false quest for love, this wasn’t the toughest part of the experiment.

Jake gives us a glimpse behind the curtain at the ugly truth of reality television, revealing how they recruit contestants, whether he believes they intentionally match toxic personalities and describes some of the emotional abuse contestants are forced to endure.

In a candid exchange with Bianca, Dan & Ben, Jake reveals how this led him to suffer suicidal tendencies and how his Mum saved his life.

Jake explains how the experience lead him to drop everything including access to social media to spend four weeks with monks and how this time altered his mind set and outlook on life.
