Two people have died in a crash at Two Wells.

A car and ute collided head-on near the intersection of Port Wakefield Rd and Artesian Roads just after 6 this morning.

Emergency services raced to free the drivers however both, a 31 year old Salisbury East man and a 56 year old Webb Beach man, died at the scene.

Major Crash investigators are looking into the fatal accident. 

Witnesses say the green Toyota sedan was travelling on the wrong side of the road, heading north, prior to the collision.

Inspector Cameron Devey has thanked the members of the public who've already contacted Police but want to hear from anyone else who has information about the vehicles involved.

Southbound traffic is being diverted via Mallala Rd onto Old Port Wakefield Rd, while Northbound has since reopened.

The deaths take the State's road toll to 27, compared to 29 this time last year.
