The Department of Fire and Emergency Services is urging people travelling to Esperance and surrounding areas this long weekend to check their travel plans before they set off.

A large number of bushfires are burning in the area and conditions have intensified in recent days with hot and windy weather and the potential for dry lightning.

The fires are not threatening Esperance itself so there is no need to cancel your visit, but people should check road closures and bushfire warnings to ensure they can safely travel on their intended route.

More than TWO THOUSAND people are set to visit the Goldfiends-Esperance region this Labour Day long weekend for
various events including the Esperance Cup and a Beach Volleyball tournament.

DFES advises everyone to check road closures and the Emergency WA website.
