Motorists using the Warrego Highway between Leeson Road and Kingsthorpe-Haden Road west of Toowoomba, will soon be driving on a new section of road.

Warrego Highway traffic will be temporarily switched to the newly constructed section in mid-June 2017 as part of construction of the $155 million Toowoomba – Oakey Duplication Stage 2 project.

The traffic switch is a necessary step in the highway upgrade, which involves construction of a new two-lane road parallel to the existing Warrego Highway.

Shifting all traffic onto the newly constructed lanes west of Kingsthorpe-Haden Road will allow the contractor to undertake reconstruction works to the northern section of the existing carriageway.

Once these reconstruction works are complete, traffic will be transferred back to the newly constructed carriageway to enable bridge works to continue.

This is the first of several switches that will be occurring throughout the project, and on completion, this stretch of the Warrego Highway will be a fully functioning four lane corridor.

Reduced speed limits, directional signage and traffic control will be in place during the traffic switch. Motorists are asked to obey directional signage and take care while travelling through the area.
