Grand Central has announced five new food retailers as part of the next phase of the centre’s $500 million redevelopment, set to open on March 29.

The opening of Stage Two will deliver Mexican favourite Guzman Y Gomez and Toowoomba firsts Betty’s Burgers & Concrete Co., Schnitz and Sushi Sushi, as well as Rozzi’s Italian Canteen in the Retail Galleria.

Grand Central Centre Manager Shaine Beveridge said local food lovers will be spoilt for choice with the new dining options.

“We’re excited to welcome such a great variety of food retailers to Grand Central — big names in the food industry and up-and-coming retailers looking to make their mark in the Toowoomba market,” Mr Beveridge said.

“This expanded dining offer will reinforce Grand Central’s status as a thriving urban hub where members of the community can enjoy flavours of the world in one location.”

Mexican fast food giant Guzman Y Gomez will open its second Toowoomba store on the ground level of Grand Central in the new fast casual dining destination on the corner of Victoria and Margaret Streets.

The dining offer will also feature Schnitz, the Australian franchise striving to bring the age-old culinary tradition of the schnitzel to modern-day tastebuds, and Noosa’s flagship burger joint Betty’s Burgers & Concrete Co.

Betty’s Burgers & Concrete Co. Director of Operations Nik Rollison said the company was looking forward to introducing Toowoomba locals to the classic burger shack experience that pays homage to the 1950s.

“Toowoomba will mark the opening of our fifth venue — a huge achievement by the Betty’s Burgers team and we couldn’t be more excited,” Mr Rollison said.

“We are so happy to be a part of the redeveloped Grand Central Shopping Centre, bringing the Betty’s taste to a whole new setting in Toowoomba.”

Schnitz CEO Andrew Dyduk said, “We’re really excited to be opening the new store in Toowoomba. We can’t wait to make a positive impact in the area and establish ourselves as part of the community.”

Australia’s largest independent sushi franchise network Sushi Sushi will be located on Level 1 of the new development and General Manager, Franchise Sales and Marketing, Gavan Meadows said the team were eager to deliver fresh, healthy sushi to the centre.

“Sushi Sushi is proud to announce the opening of a new store at Grand Central in 2017. We are certain Toowoomba will fall in love with our passion and dedication to delivering Australia’s freshest sushi — everyday,” Mr Meadows said.

Rozzi’s Italian Canteen will open as an addition to the Retail Galleria, bringing Italian flavours, freshly-made pasta, traditional pizza and more to the centre.

“Rozzi’s will become the new local for first date dinners, Sunday lunches with friends, or a relaxing coffee break in between shopping,” Queensland Master Franchisee Lawrence Jayaraj said.

“We look forward to making many great memories with our new Toowoomba family and serving up simple, great-tasting Italian food.”

In addition to a variety of food retailers, Stage Two will see some of the biggest names in Australian retail in one location for the first time in Toowoomba’s history when Kmart, Big W and Woolworths all join the centre.

Stage One of Grand Central’s redevelopment opened in September 2016.
