This morning, the world woke up to horrible news that the iconic Notre Dame Cathedral in Paris had been engulfed in flames.

Right now, French firefighters are working tirelessly to save the nearly 900-year-old monument without destroying the entire building, however, flames have already taken over the cathedral’s roof and caused a spire to collapse.

French President Emmanuel Macron has addressed the nation and revealed that the cathedral’s stone facade and two main towers have withstood the flames. He has also confirmed plans to rebuild the cathedral:

“I’m telling you all tonight -- we will rebuild this cathedral together. This is probably part of the French destiny. And we will do it in the next years. Starting tomorrow, a national donation scheme will be started that will extend beyond our borders.”
