He's the man responsible for crafting The Bachelor Matty J's impressive six-pack, The Veronicas svelte figures and not to mention his own eye-catching rig. Now celebrity personal trainer Jono Castano Acero is giving us his hot tips when it comes to our cheat days... or in some cases, cheat weeks.

We caught up with Jono, the creator of The Acero Training Series and spoke to him about the do's and don't's of cheat days and where we might be going wrong.

What should a cheat meal really consist of?

A cheat meal should consist of a meal that you have been craving all week to satisfy yourself and act as a one-off treat all of your hard work. In some cases, it can be more beneficial to have a 'healthy' version of what you're craving so you don't blow out... but essentially this is your treat, so you have to enjoy it.

What is too much when it comes to cheat meals? 

The struggle a lot of people have is indulging in too many cheat meals in one day - I would suggest stick to one or two, max! Drinking too much alcohol is something to steer clear of and eating too many dietary fats. 

Should I have a cheat meal at all?

Yes, you should. Cheat meals will trick the body into thinking it is getting enough calories (if not too many) and the body will then ignite its fat burning metabolism. Mentally, cheating is a great way to incorporate foods you would not normally eat.

Is it ok to not train on cheat meal days? 

If I know I’m going to have a cheat meal and I know that I’m going to consume a lot of calories, I want to burn as many of those calories as I can that day. So I might want to go for a metabolically high-intensity workout or lift heavier that day - to offset the cheat meal. So in short, try to train on cheat days!

What is your ideal cheat meal?

Pizza! Gets the taste buds going! It’s my weakness.
