How much did you spend on your child’s first birthday party? How much would you spend?

Would you spend almost $13,000?

This couple did and for a reason close to their heart.

Melbourne mum Jackie Lam spent almost $13K on a very extravagant birthday party for her son, Lachlan, as he turned one.

The birthday was reported on by Yahoo7, and was apparently planned starting from when Lachlan was only two-months-old!

The lavish party was held at a waterside restaurant and 125 adults and 50 kids were in attendance.

The day was filled with a buffet for the adults and ‘specially-crafted menus’ for the little ones - there was even a decked out dessert station!

Jealous? We are, too.

It doesn’t stop there, though, because there was also a photo booth, a fully-stocked bar for the parents, a face painter, balloonist, special labels designed for all the goodie bags, a professional photographer, and a ball pit.

The birthday was themed ‘Where The Wild Things Are’ and Jackie opened up to Yahoo7 about what lead to such a lavish occasion.

Before Lachlan was born, Jackie had suffered a miscarriage, and so wanted to celebrate the gift that she now has.

“With so much to celebrate, who wouldn’t want to try and mark it with a kick-ass party?

"If you’re going to do a birthday party, you’ve got to do it properly.”

Many have criticised the couple’s decision for the expensive event, but in reply Jackie says, “Everyone is entitled to their own opinion, but for us it was something we felt was worth it, but we acknowledge that it’s a lot of money."

We wonder how much this little guy’s 18th is going to cost…
