Townsville City Council has awarded the tender for the construction of a new bird aviary in Queens Gardens and we just know it'll look great on Insta!

Local business W & F Constructions will start work on the aviary immediately.

Local Councillor Ann-Maree Greaney said the aviary is a much-loved public asset and needed an upgrade.

“Queens Garden is a popular place to visit for both locals and visitors to Townsville and it’s only fitting that a new bird aviary is built for everyone to enjoy,” Cr Greaney said.

“We have consulted with the community about this project and I know locals are very enthusiastic to have the bird aviary back in the gardens.

“Council will continue working with residents throughout the life of the project and involving the community in the care of the birds in the aviary.”

The original aviary was constructed in the 1930's, it was given a fresh face in the 60's, so it'll be exciting to see what the 2019 version will look like!
