Teenager Charged With Assaulting Police Officer Denied Bail

The teenager accused of kicking a police officer in the head has been denied bail in Parramatta Children's Court.

The 16-year-old was deemed an "unacceptable risk" by the judge, after he allegedly kicked the officer on Monday night in Marsfield, the ABC reports.

Prosecutors say the constable - who remains in hospital in a serious condition - was kicked so hard that "blood was squirting out of his ears".

The teenager was charged late on Tuesday with assaulting an officer, causing grievous bodily harm to a police officer, affray, resisting arrest, two counts of common assault and using offensive language.

Detective Superintendent John Duncan told reporters yesterday the police officer was now "conscious" but had a "long road to recovery" ahead.

The other two officers suffered only minor injuries in the incident which began when police answered calls for help from Macquarie Centre staff.
