53-Year-Old Man Arrested for Puppy Fraud
A Sydney man has been arrested over his alleged role in a $91,000 puppy scam.
The 53-year-old is accused of receiving deposits totalling $91,580 from twenty-three would-be dog owners before allegedly laundering the payments through cryptocurrency.
The ‘designer puppies’ were being sold for “somewhere in the vicinity of $2000 to $5000 per puppy”, according to Detective Inspector Glenn Morfoot.
“During the course of the recent pandemic, there has been a high demand for puppies, creating a rich environment for these particular frauds”, he said.
The man was arrested during a search at a George Street home on Tuesday.
Police will allege that a multinational crime syndicate was at the heart of the operation, with the arrested being used as a money mule.
