Stanthorpe is in desperate need of a good downpour to avoid Storm King Dam running dry.

The water level of the dam currently sits at 56% of the dam’s capacity but will likely run dry within 12 months if the skies don’t open up.

As a result of Southern Downs Regional Councils' ongoing monitoring of water levels and in the interest of community safety, certain recreational activities at Storm King Dam are now restricted.

All power boats, jet skis and water skiing at the dam are currently prohibited.

Residents may continue using small boats with engines less than 6 horsepower and travelling less than 10 knots.

SDRC has erected signs at the entry to the dam, boat ramp, old boat ramp, recreational areas and caravan park notifying residents of the restricted activities.

For more information contact council on 1300 MY SDRC.
