The Wheatbelt's Cancer Council branch is reminding locals to be SunSmart this summer, especially since Australia has become the skin-cancer capital of the world.

Two in three Australians will develop skin cancer before the age of 70, with 2,000 people dying from the disease every year.

Most skin cancers can be treated if found early, and the council is urging people to learn how to check skin for the early signs of cancer.

Melissa Pickering from the Cancer Council says that being SunSmart is a simple and effective way of reducing your risk of developing skin cancer.
