There are serious fears for cancer patients at a Sydney Hospital with five people testing positive to Covid-19 in an oncology ward.

Three patients and two staff members have contracted the virus at St George Hospital in Kogarah.

Both of the staff members are fully vaccinated, but concerns are for the patients, as two have had only one dose of the vaccine, and one is unvaccinated.

The Hospital is now treating all patients as close contacts and has implemented additional infection control procedures.

Epidemiologist Professor Nancy Baxter believes that the latest restrictions will be slow the spread of the virus, but it will take time.

“The problem is it’s going to be increasing quite a bit before these lockdown measures take effect, so I’m not sure how high the numbers are going to be, but people do need to prepare themselves that it is going to get worse before it starts to get better, but I do believe with all of these measures, it will get better.”

We’re reminded to regularly check exposure sites at health.nsw.gov.au, get tested if we have symptoms, and get vaccinated if we are eligible to do so.
