Southport locals are fighting to stop a casino being built in their suburb.

A rally was set to be held at Carey Park at 5pm on Thursday, with residents gathering to send a clear message to the state government; that they don't want an Integrated Residential Development constructed there.

Hundreds of people are expected to turn out.

The concerned residents would be calling on the government to take the "significant and well-loved public land which is heritage listed at Carey Park", as well as the adjacent bowls club and tennis courts, off the list of potential sites for a second Gold Coast casino.

The Carey family was also due to attend the rally and address the crowd.
