Sophie Monk shared a very personal video with her followers last night, revealing the moment she was diagnosed with endometriosis, as well as footage from her surgery.

The Love Island host took to her Insta Stories to share two videos.

The first showed Sophie in a hospital bed, post-surgery, being told her her doctor that they had found “some endometriosis, but not much.”

Sophie captioned the video:

“So many women live not knowing they have endometriosis. If you have annoying cycles, you should ask your dr.”

The second video shows footage of Sophie in the operating room with the caption:

“Only I’d ask to be filmed under! Best sleep I’ve had in years @monashivf your staff are angels”

Endometriosis is a common disease which sees the tissue that is similar to the lining of the womb, grow outside it in other parts of the body.

More than 700,000 (10%) of Australian women suffer with endometriosis at some point in their life. The disease often begins during teenage years, however, symptoms are variable which can contribute to the 7 to 10 year delay in diagnosis.

Other celebrities who have been very vocal with their diagnosis include Ellie Angel,  Emma 'Yellow Wiggle' Watkins, Lena Dunham, Whoopi Golgberg and Susan Sarandon.
