The new wastewater treatment plant in Kingaroy is due to be officially opened next month. As part of these plans, Aquatec Maxcon who designed and built the new plant has kindly sponsored a competition to be run within all South Burnett region schools.

The competition is open to all students enrolled at a school within the South Burnett region. There are different categories ranging from a colouring-in competition for the primary school students through to producing posters about the water cycle and catchment management for high school students.

“The idea is to involve local school students in celebrating the completion of the project by challenging them to do something a little bit out of the ordinary” said Councillor Roz Frohloff.

It’s a great opportunity for students to get enthusiastic about wastewater treatment and to have the chance to win some of the very generous cash prizes on offer from Aquatec Maxcon. Mayor Keith Campbell said “The new plant is a great asset for Kingaroy and our region as a whole. It’s not very often a small regional area like ours can lead the way in wastewater treatment technology by building the first ‘Nereda’ plant.”

Not only do the students have the chance to win cash prizes, the winning entries will be placed on display at the Kingaroy Wastewater Treatment Plant where it will be seen by the many national and international visitors the plant is attracting.

The judging panel will be made up of representatives from Aquatec Maxcon and Water and Wastewater Portfolio Councillor Roz Frohloff.
