The large bushfire burning near Rosedale is now under control.

After burning through around 12,200 hectares, firefighters have continued working around the clock to black out hot-spots and strengthen containment lines.

Ground crews, machinery and aircraft have spent the past nine days battling the blaze, and the Incident Management Team is now in a position to call the fire under control.

Incident Controller Andy Gillham told Hit FM News this morning that the fire continues to burn. "The hot material inside the 12,000 hectare area won't go out until we get significant rain, but we're confident that we've blacked out and made safe the perimeter of the fire. That's why we say the fire is under control."

Mr Gillham advises us to continue monitoring conditions, download the VicEmergency app, visit the VicEmergency website, or call the VicEmergency Hotline on 1800 226 226 for the latest information.

Residents in Rosedale and surrounding areas are expected to see smoke for the next several days.
