A man accused of breaking into a home in Wallsend last night has been arrested following a police pursuit.

The 48 year old was spotted leaving the house in Victory Parade at around 10:30pm.

Police noticed him on the Pacific Highway at Sandgate and gave chase.

The pursuit went through Williamtown and ended at Tomago, with officers deploying road spikes.

It's claimed a replica pistol and samurai sword were found in the man's car.

He'll face Newcastle Local Court today.
