Charles Sturt University has welcomed this week’s announcement from the Federal Government that it has secured agreement to offer new clinical training opportunities in rural and regional Australia, but say it’s only part of the solution.

Canberra has signed off on the creation of 26 Regional Training Hubs to encourage young doctors to undertake postgraduate training in regional areas, while three new University Departments of Rural Health, including CSU, will provide rural training placements for nursing and allied health students.

CSU, in partnership with La Trobe University, is continuing to push for its own Murray Darling Medical School proposal, looking to recruit and train doctors in Wagga, Orange and Bendigo.
