A 15-year-old girl has been left in serious condition after being run over by a vehicle in Melbourne’s west.

The young girl, who is believed to have autism, is alleged to have laid down on the road before being run over by a vehicle on Blackshaws Road in Newport at around 11:30PM on February 20.

The dark-coloured hatchback is alleged to have continued driving, but police saqy it is possible the driver was unaware they had hit someone.

Emergency services were called to the scene where they attempted to treat the girl before transporting her to hospital.

She has since undergone several surgeries and is believed to have suffered several broken bones.

In an attempt to identify the driver, police have released CCTV footage of the vehicle which was seen driving along Blackshaws Road around the time the incident took place. 

Police are urging anyone with information regarding the identity of the driver to come forward.
