A 50-year-old police officer from the Southern Region charged with computer hacking has been stood down from his official duties while he awaits his day in front of the Toowoomba Magistrates Court next month.

The officer has been charged with computer hacking and misuse, pursuant to section 408E of the Criminal Code.

In a statement by QPS:

"In keeping with our commitment to high standards of behaviour, transparency and accountability, we have undertaken to inform the public when an officer faces serious allegations of misconduct," the QPS said in a statement.

"This does not mean the allegations against the officer have been substantiated."

He will appear before court on February 18.
