Police have charged a man after he allegedly drove a truck under the influence of liquor and hit a police car near Warwick on Sunday night.

Police were alerted to the situation by a member of the public that a man was driving a truck after drinking alcohol.

At 10.50pm police observed the Volvo truck and trailer on Mardon Road in Rosenthal Heights. It will be alleged the driver failed to stop and turned into Schoch Road where the truck stopped and reversed back into the police van before driving off.

It will further be alleged police followed the truck to a residence further along Schoch Road where the driver was arrested and subsequently returned a positive breath test of 0.153%.

A 47-year-old Rosenthal Heights man has been charged with one count each of dangerous driving, drive under the influence of liquor, fail to stop and fail to comply with duties of a driver involved in a crash.

He will appear at the Warwick Magistrates Court on March 27.
