Police Charge Alleged Drink Driver After Driving Through A Cemetery
Extensive damage to cemetery
Police have charged an alleged drink driver after a vehicle was driven through a cemetery causing extensive damage in Roma early Friday morning.
Officers were called to Lewis Street around 3.30am following reports a vehicle had crashed through a fence and travelled about 40 metres into the cemetery.
As a result of the incident, 20 gravesites were destroyed, causing more than $20,000 in damage.
The female driver was transported to hospital for treatment of non-life-threatening injuries.
The 31-year-old woman has been charged with one count each of dangerous driving while affected by an intoxicating substance, driving under the influence of liquor, unlawful use of a motor vehicle and driving without a licence.
She is due to appear in the Roma Magistrates Court on May 25.
