Townsville City Council crews are continuing to restore beaches across the city following the unprecedented monsoon, with Pallarenda on the to-do list now.

Works to improve access to the beach at Palla and to replenish sand on the beach dunes will wrap up this arvo.

Townsville Local Recovery and Resilience Group Chair Cr Les Walker said the works are crucial for recovery.

“Townsville is lucky to have such an amazing natural environment and the monsoon has impacted it significantly,” Cr Walker said.

“Council staff have been working in a number of areas to restore these environments – in particular erosion management on our beaches and waterways.”

Community Health and Environment Committee Chair and local Councillor Ann-Maree Greaney said restoring access to Pallarenda for the public is an important step in recovery.

“The heavy rain washed out a lot of sand from the beaches and the access paths and our crews have been working hard to restore them,” Cr Greaney said.

“Pallarenda is a much-loved beach and these works will ensure it is safe for the public to access the beach.”
