Over 200 Guinea Pigs Rescued By RSPCA From 'Disturbing' Set Up In Brisbane Garage

More than 200 guinea pigs have been found in the garage of a Brisbane property, where they were allegedly being bred for commercial purposes.

According to the RSPCA, many of the guinea pigs are suffering medical conditions.

This is believed to have been a result of the poor conditions they were kept in.

Many of the female guinea pigs will need to be fostered as they are expecting more litters, with the RSPCA desperate for more food and equipment to give the animals.

"Unfortunately in this case, there was a very large number of guinea pigs allegedly being bred for commercial purposes," RSPCA's Michael Beatty told the Hit Newsroom.

"They were basically being housed in a garage in tiny cages - and there were severe medical issues as well.

"We now have an abundance of guinea pigs.

"All in all, we're just calling out on the general public to donate some vegetables or little igloos which are used to house the guinea pigs and water bottles."
