Emergency services remain at the scene of a multi-vehicle crash on the M4 citybound this morning, in which one person has died.

The crash happened about 5.50am (Thursday 9 May 2019), when a truck and eight cars crashed at the Church Street off-ramp at Mays Hill.

One person has died at the scene; however, at this time there are no further details about this person, or the other motorists involved.

Motorists are advised to avoid the area as the M4 will be closed for some time while the emergency operation continues, and officers from the Crash Investigation Unit examine the scene.

Traffic is being diverted onto the Great Western Highway around the crash site, with the Burnett Street eastbound on-ramp also closed. Traffic remains heavy, expect significant delays.
