Noise Complaints Shut Down A Sydney Concert Before 9.30pm And Nightlife Is Officially Dead

Sydney’s endangered nightlife continues its steady decline as noise complaints shut down a music gig at a modest 9:30pm last night.

Vivid Festival was hosting the Basement Parties Skate Or Die gig at the Kings Cross Hotel when police ended the event after just four songs.

Taking to Facebook, band members from Birdman or The Unexpected Virtue of a Tony Hawk Pro Skater Cover Band - who introduced the show - said music in Sydney was “truly dying”.

“This city is truly dying. We were invited to launch the Basement Parties for Vivid Sydney - ambitiously reinvigorating the seemingly lost nightlife that was once thriving through our streets, only to get enough noise complaints to shut down the show,” they wrote.

“And it's not even 9:30pm. We've played four songs. We're in an iconic local venue. And we're heartbroken. Because we can't keep playing for you”.

The “disappointed” band has called on legislative change to ensure the future of Sydney’s live music scene.

They added: “This is proof that legislation needs to change. Because everybody is losing in this situation. We just haven't faced the true consequences of the absence of culture. And if things keep going the way they're going, that future isn't too far off.”
