LEAKED: Some students learned their results days earlier than plannedĀ

Victorian students will no longer receive their final score via text message in the wake of massive failings by VCE authorities last year which saw them hand confidential student data to a digital marketing company.

The bungle saw more than 2000 students learn their results via SMS five days ahead of their scheduled release in December prompting Education Minister James Merlino to order an independent review into Salmat Digital, the company in charge of sending the messages.

The Victoria Tertiary Admissions Centre (VTAC) later confirmed that the results which had been prematurely released were correct.

According to the Herald Sun an upgraded VTAC app will be implemented as an alternative to the current system, which it says a redacted Deloitte report described as lacking proper checks regarding studetnts' confidentiality.

The 2016 error has been attributed to a Salmat staff member who failed to "execute a documented and scheduled system procedure in preparation for routine testing that was planned to occur," according to the Sun.
