Lake Macquarie won't be going back to weekly general waste bin pick ups.
Council decided overnight to stick with the fortnightly collections, despite a number of complaints from residents who are finding their bins infested with maggots.
Instead Council is planning to better promote the opt-in additional bin pick ups, review the pricing and provide more help to households dealing with dirty nappies and medical waste.
It will also offer thicker, more durable compostable bags.
Liberal Councillor Kevin Baker says residents deserve better, claiming the bin system is "failed" and "rotten".
He's planning to raise the issue with the Minister for Local Government.
