After the disruption of the light rail project in the Sydney CBD, new plans have been put in place as construction heads to Parramatta.

In order to combat the number of small businesses impacted by the shut-down, an 'activation' process will get underway, with live entertainment, interactive street installations and pop-up parks to encourage people to still visit the area, despite construction works.

These installations will be focused in areas such as Westmead, North Parramatta and to Carlingford, with local businesses understood to have been consulted on the plans.

There remains concern, however, that the activation program will not alleviate much of the stress on businesses in the area - especially given how disruptive the construction sites will be in terms of dust pollution and noise.

The Parramatta project will be underway in 2020, with construction expected to be finished and the light rail operational by 2023.
