Naracoorte Lucindale Council has thanks community volunteers who have pitched in to help clean glass from the Naracoorte Swimming Lake.

Locals have pitched in to help staff remove glass from the bottom of the lake officials finding three smashed bottles.

Originally the lake was set to be drained, pushing the opening date back three weeks at a cost of 20 thousand dollars.

The glass is now being removed without draining the lake, the water being treated with chlorine and other chemicals.

Council is confident the Lake is on schedule to open this Saturday, earlier than previous years.

Council are set to advise on the exact time of opening.
