Health Minister Martin Foley today explained that the six cases that were active in the community, only added a small number of exposure sites to the list as a result of the current lockdown.

"That should give us a degree of confidence and hope that this response we're now into is working," he said.

Todays infections take the total number of cases linked to Victoria's most recent outbreak to 107.

Although the outbreak appears to almost be under control, Chief Health Officer Brett Sutton said Victoria is not quite out of the woods yet.

"I think we've peaked in terms of numbers out in the community while infectious, I don't know that we've peaked in terms of new cases that are emerging" he said.

"It is both a more infectious variant, the estimates are that it's a more severe variant as well."
