So - it's either you or someone you know, but it's no secret that coffee is the lifeblood for many of us.

But would you buy one - an espresso no less - for $100 a cup?

That's what they're charging at Nu Noir Coffee Boutique in Mt. Hawthorn and this morning, Pete and Matt just had to find out why from its owner, Alessandro Carciotto.

As you'll hear, there's a good reason why he charges $100 per cup, and it's all to do with the defects (or lack thereof) in his cup.

LISTEN:

"Coffee's got a grading system, it gets graded from 100. For every defect it has, it loses points. The commodity coffee we drink every day will range from 70 to 81. "The one that we sold for $100 scored 93.75."

- Alessandro Carciotto
